Recently a letter by government officials surfaced through social media platforms. It was regarding the appointment of the Investigation Officer to investigate cases registered under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989. The subject attracted the immediate and due attention of Human Rights Defenders, victims and lawyers equally. There was also some confusion and debate over the exact provisions of the law and jurisdiction of different authorities. To discuss the issue in detail, a webinar was organised by a local group with the support of DHRDs and MANUSKI on 03/02/2022 – Thursday – over zoom.
In Webinar, around 41 participants joined through a zoom conference, and the others were requested to watch it through YouTube. Adv Ambadas Bansode and Adv Pratibha Shakya addressed the issue, and Machindra Ji Gawale preceded the Webinar.
